DAVID: Hello everyone. It's David Gunn, here, President of Edward Jones Canada with some exciting news to share.
I am thrilled to announce that earlier this year Edward Jones Canada piloted the virtual Edward Jones Financial Fitness program. In the first nine month since launch, the training course has been taken by nearly 2000 students in 69 high schools in 5 Canadian provinces - Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.
Financial education comes at a pivotal time where inflation, market volatility, and other socio-economic pressures are mounting for all Canadians. Dealing with these economic challenges becomes less intimidating with education.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn about finances, because it creates wellbeing in families and communities.
And this program is designed to boost financial literacy and give high school students the tools to build financial knowledge.
Understanding finance concepts like the stock market and investing principles is important to build confidence in making personal financial decisions.
So, how does the program work? I am proud to share some exciting data points on the success of our pilot:
- Confidence in financial decision-making among students jumped from 29% to 65%.
- When making future financial goals for themselves, confidence rose from 14% to 79%.
By giving students the tools to build financial knowledge and confidence early in life we are setting them up for a brighter financial future and success.
