Online Access glossary

Account -- The nickname assigned to each of your accounts based on the account classification (by default). Access the User Options - Change Account Nicknames feature to create your own account nicknames.

Account Type -- Used to indicate if a security holding, account activity, or account order is held or has taken place in the cash, margin or income portion of an account.

Action -- The type of order placed in an account. Possible values include: 

  • Buy 
  • Sell 

Book Value -- The original cost of an investment, plus commissions, fees, and dividend reinvestments adjusted for certain events, which may include stock splits, spin-offs and/or mergers.

Cache -- The portion of your computer's memory that your Internet browser uses to remember information you've entered and viewed.

Cash Balance -- The current cash balance in your account (CAD or USD).

Commission -- The fee associated with a trade activity in an account (when applicable).

Description -- The company name or transaction identifier of a security holding or account activity.

Drop-Down Menu -- A menu that opens by placing the pointer over a button or field and pressing the mouse button.

Equity (Cash + Sec) -- The combined value of all cash and securities held in an account by currency, minus the amount due on any loan.

Expiry Date -- The date an open order on the Accounts Orders page will expire.

Fills -- The number of shares that have filled for a pending order.

Funds -- The type of currency used to represent the cash and/or securities in an account (CAD = Canadian Dollars; USD = United States Dollars).

Loan Balance -- The outstanding loan balance for an account.

Margin Available -- The amount margin available to borrow against the securities held in the account.

Market -- The location of the exchange where an order is to be executed.

Market Value -- The current market value of all securities in an account.

Net Amount -- The net amount of a transaction in the account including any commission and/or fees.

Order Number -- A unique identifier assigned to an account order.

Price -- The price per share of a security held in the account, an account activity, or the execution price of an account order.

Quantity -- The number of shares held, transacted, or ordered in the account.

Remaining Quantity -- The number of shares remaining to be filled in an open order.

Status -- The current status of an order. Possible values include:

  • Open
  • Pending

Symbol -- An abbreviation assigned by the stock exchanges to identify a security.

Transaction Type -- The type of transaction appearing on the Account Activity page.

Value Date -- The date a transaction appearing on the Account Activity page was valued. In the case of a trade, this is the settlement date.

Company Name -- The company name or transaction identifier of a security holding or account activity.

Last Trade -- The most recent price at which a security was traded.

Symbol -- A stock symbol or ticker symbol is an abbreviation used to uniquely identify publicly traded shares of a particular stock on a particular stock market.

Date/Time -- The day/time at which the last quote was obtained. All times are Eastern Time (EST) unless otherwise noted.

$ Change Amount -- The amount a stock price has changed since the prior trading day's close.

% Change -- This shows the change in price due to on market trading of the security. Any change is also shown as a percentage.

Volume -- The number of shares traded

Description -- The company name or transaction identifier of a security holding or account activity.

P/E Ratio -- Price to earnings ratio -- The price of a stock, divided by its trailing 4 quarters earnings per share. For example, a stock selling for $20 per share that has a $1 per share in earnings has a P/E of 20.

Currency -- The type of currency used to represent the cash and/or securities in an account (CAD = Canadian Dollars; USD = United States Dollars).

Annual Div. Rate -- The cash dividend paid per share, annualized.

Day High -- The highest price a security was traded for on the current day.

Day Low -- The lowest price a security was traded for on the current day.

Div. Pay Date -- The date the dividend is paid.

Dividend Yield % -- The stock's annual dividend per share, divided by its market price per share. For example, a stock that sells for $60 per share and pays an annual dividend of $2 per share has a dividend yield of 3.30%.

52-Week High -- The highest price of a security within the last 52 weeks.

52-Week Low -- The lowest price of a security within the last 52 weeks.

Ex-Div. Date -- The day on or after which the buyer of a common stock is not entitled to a previously declared dividend.
