I became a financial advisor so that I could help people live their best possible lives.

Interestingly, my 15 years as an engineer prepared me well for this role. Both careers require a healthy dose of organization and analytic skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, teamwork, good communication and a strong code of ethics. What I love about applying those skills as a financial advisor is the significant difference I can make – one client at a time – in people's lives.

Over the years, I've seen a lot of people in the energy sector (though I know it transcends all professions) who did well with income but not so well with saving and planning. They didn't necessarily make good financial decisions and sometimes squandered good opportunities. Then I could simply sympathize, but now I can help my clients think ahead to their goals, consider their challenges, and protect their family's lifestyles from catastrophic events.

The way I work with clients begins with the relationship. With something as important as money and the future, I believe a strong relationship with each client matters – for good conversations, good rapport, and good connections. That way, they can help me understand what really matters to them and we can define the purpose for their money. I'm looking to get to know each client personally and partner together so we can make a long-term, meaningful difference.

Financial stability allows choices. In my own life, I chose a few years ago to return to Vancouver Island where I grew up but left for my engineering career. I can make my family – both the family I grew up with and today's immediate family – a priority and enjoy work-life balance. Outside of work, I'm passionate about the great outdoors, from hiking, golfing, mountain biking, snowboarding and scuba diving.
