I grew up in Cabbagetown before it was gentrified. We had very little money, but my mother made it work. She held down two jobs and somehow stretched every dollar. I respected her determination, and I also resolved that as an adult, I would find a way not to worry about having cereal in the morning. Add to that the realization that my education didn't prepare me for the practical side of finances – saving for goals, understanding tax implications, understanding investing – and it's no surprise that I chose a career as a financial advisor. I help not only myself but the clients I serve feel informed, in control and secure in their financial futures.
Ten years ago, I moved my practice to Edward Jones because of their holistic, client-focused approach to client service. I have the opportunity to spend quality time with every client in order to hear what they care about and what they need most. From there, things fall into place – I can design an individualized portfolio, work with CPAs and lawyers as needed, explore tax-advantaged investments and educate clients on topics they may not have considered, like estate planning and tax implications.
My commitment to clients is comprehensive and long-term. Though it may take more of my time, I often recommend individual stocks rather than mutual funds. I keep a close eye on the portfolio to make sure we stay balanced and are progressing toward our goals. We meet regularly to make adjustments when things in life change. And I am available with honest answers to questions whenever they arise.
