Life happens. The financial strategies I build for clients take that into account. We not only plan for the future but also prepare for the unexpected. And I commit to a long-term relationship with every client – both families and business owners – so they have personalized, consistent advice and guidance even as life happens and things change.
I've seen in my own family the down side of not being prepared. I grew up in a middle class, dual income household. Even though my dad receives a government pension, my parents had never sat down with a financial advisor and weren't fully prepared to live off retirement income. Now in their late 70s, they still have a mortgage and still buy on credit. My dad has degenerative health issues and, not having planned for this, affording the care he needs in the next few years will be more difficult for them.
In the same way I now help my parents navigate through, I have built a career on helping others with their short- and long-term needs. We plan for their goals – from saving for a house or car to having kids, and from planning their estate and passing wealth to the next generation to charitable giving. We also prepare for changes like a job loss, disability, long-term health issues and emergency expenses. I work one-on-one with clients to make this happen.
Enter our branch and the first smiling face you'll see belongs to Suzanne Liberty, our branch office administrator. She's inherently likeable, genuinely interested in getting to know our clients and amazingly good at staying on top of the administrative side of looking after our clients.
On a personal note, my wife Liann and I play in a cover band as lead singers, guitarist and keyboardist. We have two kids: Roan 15 and Lyla 19. I helped found the Leslieville BIA and have volunteered with the Red Door Women's Shelter and Variety the Children's Charity. I have an interest in theater (and have done stage management). And I love food, wine, travel and laughter.
